Critters for lunch

As I was eating my za ja mien on this lovely, sunny afternoon, I turned on my iTunes to catch up on some NPR podcasts. With my luck and timing, this is what I ended up pairing with my lunch:
"The cicada is paralyzed. The female puts it on its back and lays its egg, hatches out, takes its time, chewing through one of its leg joints. It's like the movie, 'Alien,'" says Chuck Holliday, a biology professor at Lafayette College.
I can tell you that I put my chopsticks down and lost my appetite for about six minutes before I could finish demolishing my lunch. Alas, my hunger wins, but these insects are not pretty...
